DAVE "HENDU" HENDERSON EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP
IT ALL STARTED WHEN...
Dave “Hendu” Henderson was a former major league baseball player. Dave started his career as the first player drafted by the Seattle Mariners in 1977. In 1986, Henderson hit a ninth-inning, two-out, two-strike epic homer that lifted the Red Sox to a Game 5 victory over the Angels in the American League Championship Series. The Red Sox won games 6 & 7 to advance to the World Series. During his 14 seasons in the major leagues, he also played for the Oakland A’s. He was on their last championship team in 1989 and was with the team for two other World Series appearances. Dave’s autographs were always signed “Hendu, still having fun.”
Off the field, he carried on his life in leadership roles helping kids by co-founding Rick’s Toys for Kids. He was also actively involved in sponsoring events and fundraisers to find a cure for Angelman’s syndrome, the disease his son has bravely lived with since birth.
